Apgar, Patricia K.

Apgar, Patricia K. age 85 of Andover Twp., died suddenly Monday August 22, 2016 at the Newton Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Newark, she grew up in Glen Ridge. Patricia had lived in Belvidere, Hackettstown, and Newton for many years before moving to Andover Twp. in 2006.

Daughter of the late William and Suzanne C. (Cervenak) Kloss, she was a graduate of the Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth, NJ. Mrs. Apgar had worked many years as the Assistant Manager of the Transit Department for the former Midlantic Bank Newton. A devout Catholic, Patricia was a former parishioner of the St. Joseph RC Church Newton where she was a member of the adult choir. She is currently a parishioner of the Our Lady of the Lake RC Church Sparta.

An expert at cross stitching, she frequently gave her family and friends framed cross-stitch pictures as Holiday gifts. She used her skills at knitting and crochet to knit blankets for Project Linus (blankets for children with cancer). She was named the Town of Newton Citizen of the Year in 1997 for her volunteer work with the Newton Board of Health and the Newton Pride in Preservation Program.  She was self-taught in the science of native-plant preservation and encouraged everyone she knew to be supportive of animals, wildlife, and the importance of patriotism.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and friend, Patricia was a dedicated NY Mets baseball fan. She will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Mrs. Apgar was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Charles L. in 1977. Survivors include her cherished son Timothy W. of Andover Twp., her cousin Kenneth E. Moor of Harrisburg, PA as well as several other cousins and many friends.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday August 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Our Lady of the Lake RC Church Sparta. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph RC Church Cemetery Newton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the SPCA www.njspca.org  or Catholic Charities www.catholiccharitiesusa.org  Online condolences may be offered through www.iliff-ruggierofuneralhome.com

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
The Central Sussex Garden Club will miss Pat and her lovely garden pictures. She shared with me in July that she hoped her health would improve enough that she could attend meetings again. We are so sorry for your loss. MEKline, treasurer, CSGC
