Taubert Smith, Carolina A. "Charlene"

Taubert Smith, Carolina A. “Charlene” age 94 of Newton, NJ passed away peacefully Thursday November 3, 2016 with her loving family by her side at the United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen following a long illness.

Born, raised and educated in Belgium, Carolina immigrated to the United States in 1946. Taking a giant leap of love, she married William Taubert (Deceased in 1989), a Tech Sgt. in the United States Army. She became a US citizen shortly thereafter.

She began her life in the US in New York City, moved to Kearny, and eventually settled in Rockaway. She became active in Morris Catholic High School organizing and working Bingo every Friday night with her husband William. She was also very instrumental in beginning the senior’s organization of St. Cecelia RC Church Rockaway. Because she was such a great Bookkeeper, she became the Treasurer of almost every club she joined.

Never losing her accent, she worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses including a shoe manufacturer and a car dealership. Eventually she finished her career as an assistant treasurer for KDI Pyrofilm, a resistor company.

In 1991 Carolina took another leap of love and married Ronald P. Smith. They moved to Hackettstown along with his son Ron Jr. (Deceased). They enjoyed twenty five years together.

Daughter of the late Marie and August Brouwers, she was also predeceased by her brothers and their spouses, August and Philomein, Leon and Rosa as well as her sister and spouse, Yvonne and Charles. She was also predeceased by several nieces Vivian, Christel, Machtel as well as a nephew Harry.

Carolina is survived by her husband Ronald P. Smith, her daughter Carol M. Siro, her stepson and his wife Jeff and Alice; her grandchildren Matthew and his wife Juliet; Christel and her spouse, John; and Laura and her spouse, Brian. Also surviving are her three loving great grandchildren John, Jacob, and Sophia Carolina as well as her niece and nephew in Belgium, Annie and Hubert and great nieces and nephews and great step grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday November 9, 2016 at 9:30 AM in the St. Joseph RC Church Newton. Interment will follow in the St. Cecelia RC Church Cemetery Rockaway. Visitation will be held Tuesday November 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt.206) Newton, NJ.
