Fernicola, Suzanne M.

Fernicola, Suzanne M. age 93 of Newton, NJ passed away peacefully Monday evening February 5th, 2018 in Newton, NJ. Born and raised in Newark, she had lived in Kearny for sixty years before coming to Sussex County in 2013.

Daughter of the late Robert and Josephine (nee Della Penna) Nittolo, Suzanne was a graduate of Central High School Newark Class of 1942. She had a long career as a Baker with the Shop Rite of Kearny until her retirement in 1981. A loving and devoted wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother, sister and homemaker, Suzanne had served as a Girl Scout Troop leader in Kearny in the 1960’s as well as a member and past President of the Kearny PTA.

A former and active member of the Henrietta Benstead Senior Citizens Club of Kearny from 1970 well into the 1990’s; she enjoyed many activities and club trips. A devout parishioner of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church Newton, Mrs. Fernicola was predeceased in life by her beloved husband Fred in 2006.

Survivors include her daughter Suzanne C. and her husband Jack Durkin Jr. of Newton and her son Robert and his wife Susan of Rolesville, NC. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jack Durkin III, Jaime Dirkson, Christine Mayhew and Catherine Bledowski, her great grandchildren Mikaela, Tyler Dirkson, Ashley, Olivia, Makenzie Durkin, Avera and Charles Mayhew, as well as her sister Roberta Murphy of Lake Worth, FL.   

              A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday February 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the St. Joseph RC Church Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery North Arlington, NJ. Visitation will be held Monday February 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ.
